Period of stay: 02-2020 – 09-2020
Evaluation sheet for departing Fellows
- What would you consider to be the major benefits of your stay at IWM?
Due to the COVID-crisis, my stay (together with Dr Markus Rheindorf) turned out to be very different than we had hoped for: the IWM had to close down, it was possible to participate in on-line lectures and debates (which I did quite regularly). Thus, the discussions were indeed very inspiring – but, of course, less interesting than face-to-face interactions.
Nevertheless, I submitted a short essay about crisis communication during the COVID- crisis to the new focus of the IWM. Markus and I also gave a lecture in November 2020 about our research. And, due to the publication of the second edition of The Politics of Fear (Sage 2020 and in German: Konturen), IWM decided to dedicate an on-line discussion/section to this book.
Nevertheless, our proposed research had to change: the planned fieldwork had become impossible, thus Dr Rheindorf and I had to change the focus of our project. We submitted our book-length manuscript to Exeter Press beginning of March 2021 (Identity Politics Past and Present).
Dr Rheindorf and I published two more books in 2020: De Cillia, Wodak, Rheindorf & Lehner 2020 Österreichische Identitäten im Wandel (Springer); and Sociolinguistic Perspectives on Migration Control (Multilingual Matters).
My other publications are all listed on my homepage at Lancaster University, almost all interviews, podcasts and commentaries are listed under my focus at the IWM.
- Was the event programme of the IWM attractive and interesting for you?
See above: the on-line lectures were excellent!.
- Do you have any criticisms of any aspect of the Institute’s program and operations?
Please include any suggestions for improvement.
This is a question which I cannot answer as the COVID-crisis was overwhelming. I believe that the IWM did the best possible under these conditions.
- Is there anything else you would like to let us know regarding your stay at the IWM?
